vintage Junghans anniversary mantel clock, a classic piece of German craftsmanship traditionally completed with a protective clear glass or plastic dome. This type of timepiece is also known as a 400-day or torsion pendulum clock. Rather than swinging side-to-side like a traditional pendulum, the weighted spheres at the bottom rotate smoothly clockwise and counterclockwise on a suspension spring. This specific model features an ornate gold-tone dial decorated with an etched floral pattern, clean Roman numeral markers, and polished brass pillars. Depending on the era, these models either used a traditional mechanical clockwork or a modern German quartz movement. vintage German quartz anniversary clock (also known as a torsion pendulum clock), produced by the renowned maker Junghans. Key Characteristics & Features Mechanism: While traditional anniversary clocks are mechanical and wound once a year (hence the 400-day nickname), this mid-to-late 20th-century variant features a battery-powered quartz movement. The lower four-ball pendulum rotates back and forth continuously for aesthetic effect but operates independently from the main timekeeping movement.
